Visiting Six Mile Bottom: finding out what simulated game shoots demand from a clay pigeon.

Six Mile Bottom Shoot have over 20 years of experience in simulated game. As a result, we decided they would be the ideal customer to visit, to find out more about the unique demands that this flourishing activity has on a clay pigeon. Although clay pigeon shooting has been around for over 100 years, the rapid evolution of simulated game has placed more demands on the performance and characteristics of clay pigeons in recent years. our aim is to thoroughly understand these in order to develop and produce a clay pigeon more suited to simulated game than any other on the market.

Whilst at Six Mile Bottom, we spoke to Jackie, Kevin, and Richard. Here are some of their thoughts on the ideal clay pigeon:

  • Less affected by wind

  • Better range

  • Fewer breakages

  • Improved biodegradability

  • Our clays remain strong when left in traps for extended periods of time

  • Excellent visibility for guns

What NEWR has done to meet these targets:

  • When developing our simulated game clay, we have increased the weight of our standard clay by 12% and our midi by 10%. A heavier clay pigeon is less affected by the wind and can travel further due to its increased mass, momentum, and inertia. The higher mass provides greater resistance to changes in direction caused by wind, while the greater momentum and inertia help maintain the projectile's stability in flight. These factors combined result in a more predictable trajectory and increased distance traveled compared to lighter clay pigeons. This also helps to reduce breakages out of the traps due to the increased strength of the clay with more material.

  • Over the past 12 months, we have explored methods to enhance the range of clay pigeons. While tightening the spring of the trap may seem like a logical solution for increased range, it often results in more breakages. NEWR has developed a solution where grounds can achieve maximum range without having to adjust their traps excessively. We have improved the aerodynamics of the clay, reducing wind resistance and extending its distance without putting strain on gearboxes and motors.

  • NEWR places a high priority on biodegradability and environmental sustainability, going above and beyond other manufacturers in perfecting our eco clay. We have made significant investments in developing a clay that biodegrades effectively in various environments, including shaded woods and beneath tufts of grass, not just in open fields. Additionally, our eco clay remains robust even when left in clay traps for extended periods, ensuring that it is able to out perform the eco clays on the market.

  • The NEWR eco clays are dyed to alter their colour this is the same for both the top and bottom. This significantly enhances visibility compared to many other biodegradable clays available on the market, which often have a light underside, leading to reduced visibility.
